America ~ The first public house in America is opened by the Governor of New York who is too busy to entertain strangers and travelers in his own home. The building became City Hall and was used for that purpose until the 1880’s. Colonial courts later required that some kind of public house be established in each community. During the American Revolution, the tavern was the customary venue of political planning sessions.

Beaverton, Oregon ~ In 2000, four fellow innkeepers founded Monteaux’s, an American gathering place dedicated to bringing great food, drink and service to Washington County in a modern version of the public house.

Our mural (loosely) represents the changes to this area over the last two centuries.
Rail travel has come and gone and come again, what other simple pleasures have we forgotten about only
to rediscover years later?

Historically accurate - no. UFO's - maybe. Purple mountains majesty - absolutely.

In the years to come, we will enjoy watching the changes in our neighborhood, city, state, country and world - from the comfort of our own little gathering place.

Eat, drink and tell big stories...we're glad you're here.
